He knew what he did not want to become at a young age. A restaurateur, like his father! He persevered and resisted the pressures. He was rebellious from the beginning. Unfortunately he could not finish High School, due to the frivolous amount of tuition that his parents didn’t have (10 shillings at the time). That’s when he began realizing the meaning of “the power of will”.

He started selling refreshments through his push cart. Then he started cleaning offices. While doing that, he discovered the existence of books. His next job was at an imports company, where he self taught himself typewriting. He was saving up money throughout the years and with great yearning he opened up his first small shop, making and selling candles.

He continued his search for new merchandise for his small shop, and he found some in Famagusta (Cyprus). By doing that, he was slowly adding variety to his merchandise. Eventually he opened up a General Store. In the mean time, systematically he was studying English, and during the WWII 1940 he started learning German from Jew refugees that were fleeing to Cyprus. With the knowledge of the German language he could now write letters to different companies securing the distribution of their products in Cyprus.

He later on, attended German courses at the local Goethe Institute where he perfected his German Language. He travelled and he worked on with general trade…..His secret? “Be daring with moderation and willing to try out new things”.
